I'm a freelance writer. I'm interested in pitching articles to DDN or accepting writing assignments.
We'd love to hear from you! Please submit 2-3 writing samples (they don't have to be dog- or pet-specific articles). Include a resume if you have one or else provide some background information about who you area and your interest in dog or experience with the dog community. Send materials to submissions@downeastdognews.com.
If there are certain topics that you'd like to write about, or specific articles you'd like to pitch, please let us know. We're always open for ideas. It is best to run topics by us before writing since we may have already covered a topic or have it in the pipeline.
Do you pay freelance writers?
We do offer small fees for articles written by freelancers. The fee depends on the type and length of the article and is decided by the Publisher prior to submission.
I've written a story or article that I'd like to be considered for publication by Downeast Dog News.
DDN welcomes individual unsolicited submission, however, we cannot respond to each and every one. If we decide to print your article, you will be notified prior to printing. Please note that we typically do not publish tributes to dogs that have been rescued, adopted or who have passed away. However, you are welcome to submit these stories to our website under "Adoption Announcements" or "Memorials." Before submitting an article, please carefully review the writing guidelines below to ensure it meets our basic requirements, including tone, style and length. Send material to submissions@downeastdognews.com.
I'm interested in writing a column for Downeast Dog News
DDN is very selective in the types of columns it prints. Review the DDN writing guidelines and several issues of the newspaper and consider if the column fits the tone and style of the newspaper and readership. Please send 2-3 sample installments of your proposed column (no longer than 600 words) for consideration.
Will you consider reprints?
DDN will on occasion concern reprinting articles that have been previously published elsewhere. Before submitting an article, please carefully review the writing guidelines below to ensure it meets our basic requirements, including tone, style and length. Send the material to submission@downeastdognews.com and let us know if you have permission/rights to reprint the article and where and when it has previously appeared.
Do you accept book reviews, poetry, games, cartoons, photos and art? Do you accept submissions from kids?
DDN welcomes submission of book review, poetry, games, cartoons, photos and art, however, we can not respond to each and every submission. Photos should be submitted to http://dognews.mycapture.com and all other submissions should go to submissions@downeastdognews.com. DDN always welcomes submissions from kids. Teachers interested in getting their classrooms more involved with DDN, please contact us.
