A Note from the Publisher
“All dogs all the time!” What better way to spend a day than reading, writing and sharing stories with other people who love dogs. That’s what I thought when I first saw a dogs-only newspaper in Portland, Oregon.
When I moved back to my home state of Maine in 2004, publishing a dog newspaper was something I knew I wanted to do. With help from a small business loan from Coastal Enterprises, Inc. and a lot of encouragement from dog-loving friends and family, Downeast Dog News came to life.
My 9-year old black lab mix, Pippin, was the inspiration for the logo. Every day she and her sister Molly keep me focused on what’s important in life: getting outside to play with the Frisbee!
My goal is for Downeast Dog News to serve as the premier resource for sharing news, information and stories about Maine’s dog community. Additional goals are to cultivate a community of responsible dog ownership and to support dog-friendly businesses and Maine-made products and services.
I invite your comments and encourage you to contact me with local news, photos and story ideas. This is your paper, too! Tell me what you would like to see in Downeast Dog News.
Downeast Dog News…because dog news is good news!
