Vacationland Dog Club All Breed Dog Shows

Vacationland Dog Club, Inc. presents its annual AKC All Breed Dog Shows, Obedience and Rally Trials on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17, 2009. Activities begin at 8 am on Saturday and at 9 am on Sunday at Wassamki Springs Campground, 56 Saco St., Scarborough, Maine.

We invite the public to observe the various activities throughout the day. Admission each day is $4 per vehicle. There is ample parking in and around the campground. Wassamki's snack bars will serve food throughout the day. There will also be vendors selling dog-related items and rescue organizations providing information on adopting a dog.

Saturday starts with regular breed conformation (as seen on Westminster Kennel Club's televised shows), obedience and rally trials. Rally is a popular form of obedience where the handler and dog have to complete a course set up by the judge. The Pine Tree Golden Retriever Club, the Pine Tree State Doberman Pinscher Club and the Androscoggin Valley German Shepherd Dog Club will support their entries. Another special attraction will be the Puppy Extravaganza, where all puppies 6 months old to 12 months old will compete in their own respective groups for the chance of being the Best Puppy in Show. Governor Baldacci and his wife have been invited to present Saturday’s Best in Show, which wraps up the day. After Best in Show Saturday afternoon, Vacationland Dog Club offers the AKC Canine Good Citizen test. The test consists of 10 steps a dog needs to pass to prove itself a well-behaved member of society. For more information visit http://www.akc.org/events/cgc/program.cfm. The fee for Saturday's test is $25 per dog, and Vacationland Dog Club asks that those interested in bringing their dogs to take the test arrive after Best in Show.

On Sunday regular conformation, obedience and rally resume. The Pine Tree Golden Retriever Club, the Pine Tree State Doberman Pinscher Club and the Androscoggin Valley German Shepherd Dog Club will again support their entries. The Best in Show concludes the weekend's activities.
