Sixth Annual Coastal Humane Society Plant Sale

Panting to get out into the garden and start digging? Come to the Coastal Humane Society Plant Sale on May 17 & 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 30 Range Rd, (off Pleasant Street) in Brunswick. The proceeds from the sale will benefit the 1000 homeless and gardenless animals that come through the shelter’s door every year. The purchase of a rhododendron will fund a spay/neuter operation. A six-pack of parsley will pay for a puppy’s rabies shot.

Now in its sixth year, the shelter’s plant sale is a popular fundraiser. After a long Maine winter, gardeners are eager to get outside and get planting. The sale will feature a variety of annuals, perennials and shrubs, which have been donated by generous commercial growers and private gardeners. Master Gardener Volunteers will also be on hand to answer gardening questions.

Coastal Humane welcomes donations of plants for the sale. If you’d like to drop off some divided perennials or other special plants from your own garden, please bring them to the shelter the week before the sale. Please pot and add a label with the plant’s name and color. (Mystery plants are hard to sell.) Share this request and plant sale dates with your gardening friends.

Dirt diggers who are eager to get some color into their gardens will find good green deals and will help a shelter animal into the bargain. FMI: 725-5051.
