York County Kennel Club All Breed Dog Shows
York County Kennel Club of Maine, Inc presents its annual AKC All Breed Dog Shows, Obedience and Rally Trials on Saturday, May 3, and Sunday, May 4, 2008. Events start 8am to 5pm both days at the Acton Fairgrounds, Route 109, Acton, Maine.
The public is invited to observe the various activities throughout the day. Admission each day is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and students and free for children under 12 years old. There is ample parking in and around the fairgrounds. The local 4H Group will provide food throughout the day. There will also be several vendors selling dog-related items and rescue organizations providing information on adopting a dog.
Saturday’s events include regular breed conformation (as seen at Westminster Kennel Club’s televised shows), Obedience Trials in the morning and Rally Trials after lunch. Rally is a popular form of obedience where the handler and dog have to complete a course set up by the judge. New this year YCKC welcomes the Central Maine Brittany Club who celebrate their 30th anniversary with a specialty show on Saturday. Returning again for supported entries of their respective breeds are the Pine Tree State Doberman Pinscher Club and Bearded Collie Club of Maine. The Norwegian Elkhound Minuteman Association will hold a specialty with a Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes. Another special attraction will be the Puppy Extravaganza, where all puppies 6 months old to 12 months old will compete in their own respective groups for the chance of being the Best Puppy in Show. The day wraps up with Best in Show.
On Sunday regular conformation, morning obedience and afternoon rally resume. The Heart of New England Chihuahua Club has returned after a year’s absence to support their entries. The Pine Tree State Doberman Pinscher Club, Bearded Collie Club of Maine and Norwegian Elkhound Minuteman Association will also support their respective breeds. YCKC pays tribute to the future of purebred dogs with the Bred By Exhibitor Extravaganza. The Best Bred By Exhibitor in each breed gets to compete for the chance to win Best Bred By Exhibitor in Show that is awarded just before the Best in Show, concluding the weekend activities.
