Boothbay Region Land Trust - "Tails on the Trails" walk

Land Trust Invites Dogs, Owners To ‘Tails on the Trails’ Walks

Baron and Cady, who love walking Boothbay Region Land Trust trails. Baron and Cady’s owner and BRLT volunteer, Barb Gibson, will lead monthly “Tails on the Trails” walks.

Dog owners and walkers can join Barbara Gibson and her two dogs – Baron and Cady – on monthly “Tails on the Trails” walks on Boothbay Region Land Trust (BRLT) preserves, touring a different property each month. For the second walk, owners, walkers and dogs will meet on Friday, Feb. 15 at 9:30 a.m. at the 209-acre Zak Preserve at Wildcat Creek, Rt. 27 in Boothbay. All of the walks, scheduled for the third Friday of the month, are open to the public, free of charge.

BRLT asks that dogs be kept under control on the preserves; Gibson leaves it up to owners whether to leash their dogs. Though BRLT provides “mutt-mitts” at its kiosks, owners are encouraged to bring baggies to clean up after their dogs, and Gibson suggested that they might also bring water for their dogs to drink.

“I think that Tails on the Trails will be like the dog parks in other areas,” Gibson said. “It’s a good way to meet other people, get to know each preserve and enjoy the beauty that we have in this region.”

There is no sign-up necessary for the walks and no limits to numbers. People can just show up at the allotted monthly preserve. Gibson said she’ll be walking her dogs regardless of who else shows up. In case of bad weather, dog owners can call the BRLT office by 5p.m. the day before the scheduled walk to find out if it has been rescheduled. Rain/snow dates will be the fourth Friday of every month. Watch the “What’s Happening” column in the Boothbay Register the day before each walk for directions and parking details.
