On September 19, 2007, the Belfast City Council officially accepted a proposal for a dog park by the Friends of Belfast Park. The dog park is to be located in the Walsh Field area, close to the intersection of Route 52 (Lincolnville Avenue) and Route 1, and recently donated to the city of Belfast by Bank of America.

The Friends of Belfast Parks (FOBP) has donated $10,000 toward the expected cost of $40,000 for a first-rate dog park. The remainder will be raised by FOBP through fund-raising events and donations. The FOBP is also donating a minimum of 100 hours of volunteer time toward maintenance of the dog park each year.

The plans include both a large dog area and a small dog area. View the complete proposal.
