There is an update on the case against Michael Morin for the animal cruelty case against him regarding Bandit that was maliciously killed in retaliation against the owner.
To date, the clerk of the courts does not have the paperwork yet from the DA's office, therefore no arraignment date has been officially set. It could be August 15th, but it has not been scheduled as of yet, as well at time. The Biddeford Police Department has completed its report and forwarded it to the District Attorney's office at the York County District Court. Once I get confirmation on date and time, I will send to all for the protest.
Michael Morin has not been charged with a felony as of yet. The Biddeford Police Department has recommended a class D offense of “burglary of a motor vehicle” and a class D offense of ‘animal cruelty’ [not “aggravated animal cruelty”, which is a felony offense –class C]. However the prosecutor’s (DA) office is reviewing it to determine whether it should be “bumped up” to aggravated animal cruelty. Therefore it is very important to write (not call) immediately and request that Michael Morin be tried for “aggravated animal cruelty”, a felony offense.
The Animal Welfare Laws defines ‘Aggravated animal Cruelty’ as “A person is guilty of aggravated cruelty to animals if that person, in a manner manifesting a depraved indifference to animal life or suffering, intentionally, knowingly or recklessly: A. Causes extreme physical pain to an animal; B. Causes the death of an animal; or C. Physically tortures an animal.” It would certainly seem Mr. Morin actions would meet all that criteria. Everyone should write ASAP, as the DA’s office could make their decision at anytime. I have been advised that emails are not as effective as actual letters. Please consider writing even a short note to the following address expressing your concern in this case and that you expect the attorney to take full action against Michael Morin. Mainers or visitors of Maine are encouraged to send your letters to:
