Planet Dog Company Store Hosts "Smilers Contest" In Conjunction With Leading Pet Magazine

Portland – Throughout the month of April, the Planet Dog Company Store will be welcoming a happy spring by collecting entries for their first “Smilers Contest” in conjunction with national dog publication, The Bark magazine.

Winners will receive several prizes, including placement of their picture in the coveted “Smiler’s Circle” on the cover of The Bark. Other prizes include a year’s subscription to the magazine, a “Dog is my co-pilot” T-shirt and bumper sticker, and fame in our local doggie community. Store customers will be able to vote on the five furry finalists from the selection of pictures. The five finalists’ pictures will be sent to the editors of The Bark, who will select the grand-smile winner.

“We’re doing this because there was such a great response to our Puppy Photo contest last August,” says Catherine Frost, Planet Dog's Director of Marketing. “With over 60 pup pictures to choose from, we soon realized that people need a place to brag about their best-friend. We give people that place – front and center – to show off their buddy,” adds Frost.

The fun is for everyone who enters the store. Customers will have until April 30th to bring in an image of their smiling dog to the store (no purchase necessary, images cannot be larger than 4” x 6” and entries will not be accepted online). All the images will be posted for everyone to see. The week of April 1st – 7th, customers who visit the store will get to vote on their favorite smiler.

Planet Dog, who designs and develops innovative pet products that enhance the lives that people share with their best friends, is also socially-responsible. The company gives a percentage of every Planet Dog purchase directly to their philanthropic arm, the Planet Dog Foundation (PDF). In 2006, the Foundation, whose mission is to promote and celebrate programs in which dogs serve and support their best friends, donated more than $100,000 in cash and in-kind donations to worthy non-profits nationwide.

“We’re doing what no other pet product company is doing," says Kristen Smith, Executive Director of the Planet Dog Foundation. “We offer unique and top-quality products that dogs love, while creating awareness of how much service dogs give back to people in our society. We hope our actions speak louder than woofs,” adds Smith. For more information and a full list of programs and grantees, please visit www.planetdogfoundation.org.
